At Mile Marker 9 on Hana Highway, you will find Ho’okipa Beach Park. This is an 8.4-square-mile county park that is recognized as one of Maui’s top surfing spots. In fact, it hosts annual surfing events like the Red Bull Championship and the Aloha Classic. The highlight of the park is the sandy beach, which is the perfect spot to watch surfers wide waves.
The park also has outdoor showers, three picnic pavilions with grills and restrooms.

4. Sake and Sushi at Nuka
Dining at Nuka is a true culinary treat with Japanese cuisine prepared with locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant’s name is derived from the process of milling brown rice into white rice. From this process, the restaurant produces its own nukazuke, which is incorporated into many of the chef-prepared dishes.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, and it offers a variety of sushi rolls, sashimi, rice bowls, noodle bowls, salads and other dishes.

8. Watch Big Wave Surfers at Jaws
Not far from Ho’okipa Beach, you will find Pe'ahi Jaws, which is recognized by surfers as having the biggest waves in the area. In fact, the biggest rideable wave in the world, which is known as Jaws, was here. The Billabong XXL Global Wave contest is held here annually, but you can typically spot well-known and pro surfers chasing waves here throughout the week.
If you prefer to watch the action, you can take in views from Pe’ahi Lookout or make the 1.5-mile walk to the beach.
9. See the Rainbow Eucalyptus Trees
Enjoying the unique ecosystems and vegetation, such as the rainbow eucalyptus tress, is among one of the essential things to do in Haiku. The rainbow eucalyptus trees are a super popular attraction along Hana Highway. Also known as Mindanao gum trees, they stand out with their multi-colored bark. The hues streaking across the bark include bright green, maroon, orange, purpose and blue.
The rainbow of colors is created as the trees shed their different layers of bark. These are fast-growing trees that can reach 200 feet tall and 95 inches across the trunk. You can find the trees near Mile Marker 7 on Hana Highway as well as at Ke’anae Arboretum.
