On An Island In The Sun
Beautiful West Maui attracts visitors from around the world. This region features many outstanding beaches, far too many to cover in one brief article. However, some of the most acclaimed sites enjoy well-deserved reputations as delightful recreation spots. Every beach on Maui has something special to offer, imagine the thrill of spending happy hours relaxing in these choice locations:
Launiupoko Beach Park
The 6.7-acre Launiupoko Beach Park lies just south of Lahaina, a popular tourist center and a historic town featuring numerous attractions. Lahaina offers museums and marine centers, fine restaurants, and unique boutiques. Launiupoko Beach Park sits at the bottom of a large hill that goes up to the Launiupoko residential community as well as the Makila Plantation development. Launiupoko is great for longboard surfing, stand up paddleboarding, or spearfishing. It's also great for having get togethers with friends and family.
This excellent recreational spot offers an expansive grassy lawn beside a picnic area that includes 16 outdoor tables and 10 grilles. Amenities include running water, an outdoor shower, public restrooms, and available telephones. Launiupoko Beach Park serves as a popular surfing and swimming location. Some shallow pools formed within rocky outcroppings along the edge of the beach furnish popular places for young children to play in the water (with parental supervision). The rock provides a natural barrier against high waves.
Many nearby restaurants in Lahaina market takeout meals. The homes for sale in Launiupoko put the beach park right in your front yard with many residents using golf carts to get to and from the beach. Great food is not far away either. For example, Eating Local in the Lahaina Square Shopping Center opens at 10 a.m. daily and offers a variety of Hawaiian and American dishes. The Surfside Woodfire Pizza Kitchen at 505 Front Street #101 specializes in pizzas and salads. Enjoy a takeout meal beside Laniupoko Beach, or prepare a picnic basket.
Baby Beach
Several beaches in Maui carry the designation "Baby Beach" due to the presence of shallow wading pools formed within lava rock along the coastline. These settings sometimes provide ideal places for toddlers to experience the ocean without getting overwhelmed by incoming heavy waves. The best known Baby Beach in West Maui stands at Pu'unoa Beach, just a few blocks away from the affordable homes for sale in Kahoma Village in Lahaina. Baby beach is a great place to relax and enjoy calm waters. The water is great for snorkeling or floating.
Although not regarded as the best local beach for swimming, this site adjoining the Puunoa Beach Estates sometimes prompts vacationers to rent condos nearby simply to enjoy its tranquil setting. It lies within a residential part of town. Access this location via Puunoa Place on the south or Ala Moana Street on the north. Visitors may rent paddleboats nearby. The beach lacks public restrooms and lifeguards do not protect people in the water in this location.
Several popular eateries sit within driving distance of Pu'unoa Beach. Some of these bistros include Frida's Beach House and Cantina at 1287 Front Street, an outdoor dining venue serving Mexican cuisine, and Aloha Mixed Plate, at 1285 Front Street, serving traditional Hawaiian platters. Beachgoers also visit Anuenue Juice Bar and Café at 338 8th Street for juices and smoothies, and Mr. Sub Deli at 129 Lahainaluna Road #101 for sandwiches.
Kaanapali Beach
Traveling north a few miles of Baby Beach brings visitors to Kaanapali Beach. At least five hotels and six condominium communities lie oceanfront along this renowned fine white sand beach. These resorts and amenities enable guests and residents to enjoy this location fully (beyond simple right-of-way usage). Many of the condos for sale in Ka'anapali also provide easy beach access.
Kaanapali Beach extends for about three miles and includes the scenic landmark of Black Rock. It maintains a celebrated history, having once formed part of a royal retreat in West Maui. The site proves excellent for an array of activities. Swimming, snorkeling, surfing, you name it, Ka'aanapali Beach has it all. Get too hot at the beach and you walk to nearby Whaler's Village for any variety of food, drinks, or shopping.
Nearby resorts also offer a variety of restaurants (too many to list in full). For example, The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa at 200 Nohea Kai Drive features ten different dining establishments. Visit Japengo for steaks, seafood, and East Asian cuisine, or stop at Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice for a cooling dessert. On North Ka'anapali Beach, find yourself at Duke's at the Honua Kai Resort and Spa.
Napili Bay
Napili Bay, just a short distance away from the beaches of Kaanapali, boasts a sandy cove adjoining palm trees and lush vegetation. Find this idyllic sandy beach near the 29th-mile marker of the Honoapiilani Highway north of Lahaina. Both residential developments and several resorts line this beachfront, making it an excellent place to own a condo on Maui.
Napili Bay is great for swimming and snorkeling because it offers an extensive soft, sandy expanse into the ocean. Further out, a reef extends beneath the water, partly sheltering the shore against high waves. To the right hand side of Napili Bay, you can typically spot some turtles in the water as well. The nearby Napili Shores rents condos offering guests direct access to this beachfront.
Consider visiting the nearby Napili Kai Beach Resort to enjoy a meal at the Sea House Restaurant at 5900 Lower Honoapiilani Road. It features a dining area offering spectacular views of Molokai, as well as a bar. Several other resorts in the vicinity also maintain in-demand restaurants.
Kapalua Bay
In 1991, the fine sandy beach at Kapalua Bay earned an award. This half-moon shaped stretch of coastline appeals to swimmers, drawn to its rich sand. Yet rocky outcroppings push into the water along both edges of the beach, to the delight of snorkelers and scuba divers. With a perfect location to enjoy Kapalua Bay, the Coconut Grove luxury condos have one of the best views of any condo on Maui.
Condos for sale in Kapalua attract buyers looking for a relaxed atmosphere and luxury mixed with privacy. The adjoining area offers many tourist attractions. For example, two championship golf courses draw PGA players to the area every January for the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
Kapalua boasts several fine restaurants. For example, for superb dishes prepared by chefs, obtain reservations at Merriman's or The Banyan Tree at the Ritz Carlton. The Gazebo at 5315 Lower Honoapiilani Road serves American cuisine and offers exceptional macadamia nut pancakes.
