Kihei Akahi Was Built With The Future In Mind

In 1976, visionary architects began to oversee the construction of the Kilauea, Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea, and Haleakala buildings to create the Kihei Akahi Complex. Instead of the copy-and-paste style of most modern complexes, each of these buildings is uniquely designed to amplify the feel of being in a tropical paradise. Today, condos at Kihei Akahi come up for sale fairly often.

Spaced out over a gentle slope, the buildings vary significantly in size. This uniqueness of construction, combined with the lush tropical landscaping, accentuates the relaxed vibe of the complex. Furthering the ‘quiet afternoon’ ideal, dotted around the property are suitable amenities that enable the enjoyment of the outdoors.

These include swimming pools, outdoor kitchens, and tennis courts all of which are well-maintained and provide plenty of seating. Considering the acreage of the property, over 6 acres (6.7 to be exact), the Kihei Akahi Condominiums have the space for the ultimate Hawaiian lifestyle.

Each Building is Unique

Comprising four buildings, there is a total of 240 condominiums in the complex ranging from studio apartments to two-bedroom units. Each building has a unique Hawaiian name but has also been labeled for construction and real estate purposes as Buildings A, B, C, and D.

While each building is different, there are similarities in that Buildings A and B are both two-story wood-frame constructions and Buildings C and D utilize concrete construction and have two elevators each as they both are at least 6 stories tall.

Kilauea

The west-facing Building A, which is the smallest, is named Kilauea and features eight townhouse-style condos. Out of the entire complex, these units are the most uniform, each one is 2 bedrooms and is sufficiently spacious to make them considered among the most elegant condominiums of the complex.

Moana Loa

Facing north and named according to the beautiful Maui mountains, Mauna Loa (translated as Long Mountain), is Building B. Like Building A, Mauna Loa is a two-story building but has five units on each floor. Again, like the units in Kilauea, these units are all two-bedrooms making them some of the bigger condos in the complex.3

Mauna Kea

Its name meaning white mountain, Mauna Kea is Building C in the Kihei Akahi Complex. The structure is south-facing (towards building B) and since it is six stories, some of the upper units enjoy marvelous ocean vistas. Mauna Kea has 11 studio apartments, 88 one-bedroom condos, and 11 two-bedroom units totaling 110 condominiums.

Haleakala

An impressive seven stories, Building D has been granted the name of Haleakala which, rather grandiosely, means the House of the Sun. However, it truly lives up to its name because of the phenomenal sunrise views on offer. As the largest of the Kihei Akahi roster, Building D has 112 condos with 14 of them being studios, 84 being one-bedrooms and 14 being two-bedroom units.

As it is constructed on the highest elevation of the property, Haleakala gives its residents those highly prized views and is the furthest from any potential noise from the main road.

A Strong Vacation Rental in Kihei Year After Year

Kihei Akahi

Due to being so close to vacation hotspots, the condo properties in Kihei have strong value retention even for the small units. This has translated well to the units at Kihei Akahi which also has strong desirability.

Below is a breakdown of the 240 condominiums in the Kihei Akahi Complex

  • 25 Studios with a 429 square foot interior and a 50 square foot lanai
  • 28 One-bedroom, one-bathroom units with a 696 square foot interior and a 27 square foot lanai
  • 8 two-bedroom and one-and-a-half bathroom units with a 1,175 square foot interior and a 125 square-foot lanai
  • 10 two-bedroom, two-bathroom units with an 879 square foot interior and a 91 square foot lanai
  • 169 one-bedroom, one-bathroom units with a 655-square-foot interior and a 68-square-foot lanai.

While condos in Building D, Haleakala, as being the furthest from the road and having the best views are understandably the most valuable, the other condos also are highly prized due to the uncrowded and comfortable nature of the complex.

Traffic noises are rarely heard and its location right across from one of the most popular swimming beaches on this side of the island makes every single condo in Kihei Akahi an ideal Hawaiian home.

South Kihei Is Very Desirable

As the area is safe and peaceful, residents often enjoy the cool tropical evenings walking along its well-lit sidewalks. Other nearby complexes, namely, Kihei Kai Nani, Hale Kamaole, and Maui Banyan, are also designed to be tranquil havens. In addition to its white-sand swimming beaches, there are plentiful quality dining opportunities, vibrant nightlife, and plenty of stores for shopping.

Since it is a well-established town, the neighborhood manages to be a balance of convenient residential complexes, such as malls and well-situated grocery stores, and pleasant leisure and holidaymaking activities.

As an example, excellent golf courses are no more than ten minutes away and several world-famous holiday destinations such as the Road to Hana and Haleakala are all within 90 minutes by vehicle.
