One of the most prestigious private clubs on Maui is Maui Country Club. Situated on the northern end of the island near the small community of Spreckelsville, one of the best golf course neighborhoods on Maui, the club is ideally located between Baby Beach and Hana Highway. Prior to the establishment of this elite country club and renowned golf course, the rolling grounds were used to grow sugar cane.
With collaboration from the Maui Golf Association and others, the club opened in 1927. While it was not the first golf course on Maui, it is the oldest course operating on the island today.
The golf course at this elite country club is unique, given the small size of the property, there is only a 9-hole, par-36 course. There are different tee boxes to allow for an 18-hole round. While the course is short, it is guarded by extremely firm and fast greens as well as gusty tradewinds.

Three tee boxes are available to accommodate various skill levels. The fairways are deceptively wide, but the trade winds blowing across the landscape add considerable challenges for golfers. Designed by William McKewan and Alex Bell, most golfers can play 18 holes in a little more than three hours. Golfers can take advantage of a golf store, a snack bar, and a lounge while enjoying time at the country club. In addition, there are practice areas for hitting, pitching, chipping, and putting. Maui Country Club hosts several annual tournaments as well as weekly Men’s and Women’s Division tournaments.
The Country Club also offers other premium amenities for you to enjoy when you are not on the golf course. Tennis and pickleball courts are open year-round for open play, clinics, and private lessons. In addition to the heated swimming pool located next to the courts, the club offers direct access to Baby Beach where you can enjoy kite-surfing, paddleboarding, and other activities. Additional amenities are a fitness center with a range of classes, a ballroom, and a recognized restaurant. Maui Country Club is certainly one of Paia's most sought after attractions.

King Kamehameha Country Club is a prestigious golfing destination near Wailuku in Central Maui, just off of Highway 30. Its inland location at the foot of rolling hills offers coastal views to the north and south from various vantage points. You can also admire the grandeur of Mt. Haleakala in the distance. The country club is named after a celebrated Hawaiian king who brought peace and unity to the islands, and this heritage is celebrated across the grounds.
The 18-hole golf course has been intentionally designed to deliver an unspoiled golfing experience. There are no homes or commercial spaces surrounding the golf course. Instead, each manicured fairway offers scenic views with well-placed trees and flowering plants as well as challenging bunkers and water features. Multiple tiers are available for men and women to suit all skill levels. The course was designed by Ted Robinson, Sr., and its design was updated more recently by Ted Robinson, Jr.
While the golf course is the main feature at King Kamehameha Country Club, the pastel pink clubhouse is stunning as well. Designed by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright, this 74,000-square-foot venue is an architectural wonder. The rustic red hue and unique profile complement the landscape, and the building sits on a perch to optimize views.
The grounds are perfectly designed with immaculate landscaping and a cascading waterfall that flows into one of the golf course’s water features. Inside, you will find stunning murals and fascinating architectural elements that bring the curved and linear elements from the exterior inside the building as well. The clubhouse offers members indoor and outdoor dining, men’s and women’s lounges, and a spa. The spa features massage rooms, saunas, a Furo, and other amenities.
Makena Golf and Beach Club

In South Maui close to Maluaka Beach, Makena Golf and Beach Club provides its exclusive membership with an incredible golf course along with high-end, premium amenities and white glove service. This private club is developed by Discovery Land Company. Originally opened in 1981, it was beautifully renovated in 2008 by Robert Trent Jones II.
The new design takes full advantage of coastal bluffs created by Haleakala’s volcanic activity. While the volcano is now dormant, its lava rock is creatively used throughout the courses and in combination with challenging slopes and lovely kiawa trees.
A Reimagined Golf Course in Makena
Originally, there were two courses. The North Course spans 6,914 yards with special features like a 200-foot drop, rock walls, dual fairways, and more. The South Course runs over 7,017 yards. Notably, the 10th hole has been recognized as a top par five hole in the state. Course features include a fairway that runs alongside the ocean and a two-tiered green. These courses have both been recognized for their excellence by Golf Inc., Conde Nast Traveler, Golf Digest, and other publications. But, you'll have to own land or a condo in special zones of Makena to be eligible to join this elite club.
Makena Golf and Beach Club is now owned and operated by Discovery Land Company. Discovery is recognized for honoring the culture and ancestry of the area while also providing an unparalleled experience for its members.
