The Coastal Border of Wailea and Makena

Wailea Polo Beach

The Wailea Resort boasts several outstanding beaches that front the community. Polo Beach, known in Hawaiian as Ke Ono O' Polo, along the southern coast of Wailea, provides an excellent setting for swimming, snorkeling, and surfing.

About This Beach

Polo Beach lies south of Wailea Beach, and immediately north of Palauea Beach. A hillside adjoins this site. The topography offers both advantages and disadvantages. While the generous width of the beachfront permits panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from this location, the terrain does limit available shade along the beachfront.

Some beachgoers choose to use umbrellas or canopies to escape from the sun during the hottest hours of the day.

The beach offers a broad expanse of fine golden-white sand punctuated on both sides by rock outcroppings. Its soft sands extend far into the water. This location supplies an ideal site for wading and swimming.

A Scenic Spot to Enjoy The Ocean

Polo Beach Club

The warm, clear ocean waters enable visitors to enjoy activities like swimming, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboard rowing, and kayaking here.

The north side of the beach offers the best snorkeling sites. Beachgoers discover a variety of marine life sheltering close to Wailea Point. It appeals to numerous visitors. Many real estate buyers invest in Wailea condos such as Polo Beach Club simply in order to enjoy this more exclusive recreational area on a daily basis.

Southern sections of this beachfront sometimes attract bodysurfers and paddleboard rowers. The waves here grow in strength and volume during windy weather. Today, this recreational location in Hawaiian carries the designation "Ke One o Polo." It translates as: "the sands of that are thin" and is the namesake for the adjoining Polo Beach Club.

Enjoy a Lovely Setting

Several luxurious residential developments adjoin this section of Maui's southwestern shoreline in part due to the magnificence of the views here. People visiting the beach sometimes simply relax on the warm sandy shore to admire the stunning setting.

From this location, the Pacific Ocean sparkles a magnificent shade of blue on bright, sunny days.

In fact, from this beach and the adjoining hillside, visitors sometimes observe Humpback Whales in the distance. Pods migrate through these waters on a seasonal basis. This section of the coastline also furnishes a great place to watch passing boats cruising in the channel between Kahoolawe, Lanai, and Maui.

Safety Precautions Along The Coast

This lovely beachfront supplies a wonderful place to enjoy the beauty of the area. However, visitors benefit by taking basic water safety precautions. A lifeguard does not oversee this beach.

Riptides sometimes form along Maui's western coast. These currents (not always apparent from the shore) move rapidly and may transport swimmers and paddlers away from their intended destinations. For this reason, some safety experts recommend learning how to spot visible rip currents and how to respond to this type of rare emergency before entering the ocean.

Secure a Home Near The Beach

Maui real estate buyers seeking homes close to this scenic locale discover some outstanding condominium communities. For example, the Polo Beach Club condos at 4400 Makena Alanui overlook the beach.

The lovely Wailea Point Condos feature 130 upscale residences on a lush 28-acre tract. Further inland, the gated Makalii Condos at 100 Kaukahi Street furnish 68 opulent townhouses and, frequently, impressive Pacific Ocean vistas.

A short drive away, One Paluea Bay at 18 Ualei Place provides 17 homesites on a 20-acre tract. Buyers desiring unique Pacific Ocean views may wish to focus their property searches around coastal subdivisions.

Some distance to the south of this beach, many Makena homes also offer outstanding views of the nearby Pacific Ocean. Investing in an oceanfront property on Maui interests astute real estate buyers!
