The Wailea Beach Path Walker’s Guide

If you’re staying in Wailea or living in Wailea, I can’t think of a better way to start the day than a morning stroll along the famous Wailea Beach Path. Even if other plans keep you from enjoying the path first thing in the morning, a mid-day or sunset stroll can be just as enjoyable.
In this article, I’m going to go over a couple of the highlights of the Wailea Beach path as well as some of the best places to stay and fun things you can do along the way.
Getting There and Where To Park
Getting to the Wailea Beach Path is very simple. If you’re staying in the Wailea Resort area you’ll just walk towards the water and find yourself on the path! If you’re a little further away than walking distance, you can drive and park at the Ulua Beach parking lot or the Polo Beach parking lot.
The ends of the path are the Andaz at the northern points and extend to the southern point at Polo Beach in front of the Fairmont Kealani. However, if you really want to extend the walk on the northern end, you can take your shoes and socks off at the Andaz and walk on the sand from Mokapu Beach to Keawakapu Beach and then rinse off at the Keawakapu Beach parking lot, put your shoes on and continue on the sidewalk into Kihei.
On the southern end, you can continue walking down Old Makena Road past Paluea Bay (White Rock) and even further down to Po’olenalena Beach and the Makena Surf Resort.
How Long is the Wailea Beach Path?
The beach path proper is around 1.6 miles one way. If you were to walk it from one end to the other and back to your starting point you’d get a roughly 3.2-mile walk in. It's a great way to get those steps in on vacation! There are a lot of ways to make it longer or shorter also. You can walk the grounds at the resorts, circle back before the end, or walk all the way to Makena if you want.
Maui is a very active destination with a lot of active visitors looking to maintain or even begin their workout habits while on vacation. Even if you are enjoying a few Mai Tai’s in the evening and indulging in some of the amazing desserts at the restaurants in Wailea, a nice easy walk in the sun is a good way to balance all of that out. The Wailea Beach Path is one of the best hikes on Maui, even if it is paved and in a luxury resort!

The Many Beaches Along The Path
Three of Wailea’s best beaches are showcased along the beach path. Ulua Beach, Wailea Beach, and Polo Beach are all gorgeous sandy beaches ready for you to enjoy. It’s a good idea to wear your swimsuit on the walk-in case you feel the need to take a dip in the ocean to cool off. Ulua Beach and Polo Beach are smaller beaches and typically have fewer people on them at any given time than Wailea Beach.

Wailea Resorts and Condos Along The Beach Path

Beginning with Ulua Beach, you’ll walk past several of the best condos communities in Wailea. From the northern end, the Wailea Elua condo complex is adjacent to the parking lot for Ulua Beach. Wailea Elua is a small, short-term rentable, private luxury condo community with fee simple units that occasionally come up for sale. The oceanfront pool and manicured grounds make it a wonderful place to enjoy the best of oceanfront living.
After Wailea Elua you’ll come to the Mariott Wailea Beach Resort. This is one of Mariott’s most luxurious properties anywhere in the world and features one of my favorite Wailea Restaurants, Roy’s Humble Market Kitchin. That’s not a typo! It’s just how they spell it. After the Marriott is the ultra-luxurious Wailea Beach Villas.

The Wailea Beach Villas offer many luxurious and spacious units boasting superb ocean views. Located right on the northern corner of Wailea Beach, this private fee simple condo community is gated and has excellent amenities including its oceanfront pool. After the Wailea Beach Villas, you'll pass the Grand Wailea Resort and the Four Seasons.

After the Wailea Beach Villas you’ll pass the esteemed Grand Wailea Resort and then the famous Four Seasons of Wailea, made even more popular by the pandemic favorite HBO series “White Lotus”. When you pass the Four Seasons the path will start to curve around a dramatic rocky point that creates a surreal landscape for Wailea Point.

Built in 1985, Wailea Point is one of Hawaii’s most iconic properties with red-tiled roofs spread across a lush green landscape. Some of these units are the most impressive of any properties in all of Hawaii. Specifically, unit 102, which is in the front of the complex facing Wailea Beach. The sunset views from here are unreal and make it one of the most exclusive properties on Maui.
The Wailea Beach Path meanders around Wailea Point where you’ll find yourself coming to Polo Beach where the Fairmont Kealani takes center stage. Walking past the Fairmont, the last property you’ll find on the beach path is the Polo Beach Club.

Units rarely sell at the Polo Beach Club. A small, private complex, the polo Beach Club features 71 units that have a 2bd/2bth floorplan featuring incredible views, especially those on the 8th and highest floor.
Things To Do Along the Wailea Beach Path

Grab a Coffee at the Beachwalk Cafe in front of the Four Seasons

Stop into the Shops at Wailea for food or to shop

Enjoy a yoga session in front of the Marriott

Swim or join an ocean activity at one of the three amazing beaches

Have a photo shoot. You’ll often see professional photographers doing swimsuit shoots.

Have a fancy picnic with Maui Luxe Picnics

Get a Tan! The beach path doesn’t have much shade, so remember to use sunscreen and bring those sunglasses with you as well.
